Adopt a bird

Home / Adopt a bird

Our Adopt a Bird opportunity helps to support the care of an individual bird species.

Adoptions are symbolic and represent support for Native Bird Rescue towards the care and rehabilitation of your chosen species.

Your gift confirmation e-mail will contain a link through which you can download an adoption certificate to personalise as either a keepsake for yourself or as a gift to a loved one

Check out the list below to get started!

Adopt Kereru

Kereru (Wood Pigeon, New Zealand Pigeon) is a large and distinctively-coloured pigeon unique to New Zealand.

They can live for 21 years, only ever lay one egg at a time and are generally silent except for occasional ‘oos’.

The main threat to kereru is predation by introduced mammalian predators but here on Waiheke they are prone to serious injury from flying into windows and glass deck railings common on modern buildings.
